Introduction
Progression ("we", "our", or "us") is a fitness tracking mobile application. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you use our app. By using Progression, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
Information We Collect
Account Information: When you sign up, we collect your name, email address, and password (securely hashed by Firebase Authentication).
Fitness Data: Workout logs, exercise details, sets, reps, weights, body measurements (weight, height, body part measurements), and fitness goals you choose to track.
Profile Photo: If you upload a profile photo, it is stored securely in our database.
App Preferences: Theme preference (dark/light), unit preference (metric/imperial), notification settings. These are stored locally on your device.
How We Use Your Information
• Provide and personalise your fitness tracking experience
• Display your workout history, progress charts, and statistics
• Show community workout plans (your display name appears as the creator if you share a plan)
• Send local notification reminders (if enabled by you)
• Improve app functionality and fix bugs
Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored securely using Google Firebase (Firestore database and Firebase Authentication). All communication between the app and our servers is encrypted via HTTPS. Firestore security rules ensure that only you can read and modify your personal data. Community workout plans are readable by all authenticated users.
Data Sharing
We do NOT sell, trade, or share your personal information with third parties. The only data visible to other users is workout plans you choose to publish to the community (plan name, exercises, and your display name). Your email, workout logs, body measurements, and other personal data are never shared.
Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services:
• Firebase Authentication — for secure sign-in and account management
• Cloud Firestore — for secure data storage
• Expo Notifications — for local reminders (no push server; reminders stay on your device)
• RevenueCat — for subscription and in-app purchase management. RevenueCat may collect device identifiers, purchase transaction data, and IP addresses to process purchases and verify entitlements. See their privacy policy at https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy

Subscriptions & In-App Purchases
Progression offers optional paid subscriptions ("Progression Pro") that unlock additional features.
Auto-Renewal: Monthly and annual subscriptions auto-renew at the end of each billing period unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the current period ends.
Cancellation: You can cancel your subscription at any time through Google Play Store → Subscriptions. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period — you retain access until then.
Refunds: Refund requests are handled by Google Play in accordance with their refund policies.
Pricing: Current pricing is displayed in the app. Prices may vary by region and are subject to change. Any price changes will not affect active subscription periods.
Lifetime Plan: The "Lifetime" plan grants access for the lifetime of the product (i.e. as long as the app is available), not the lifetime of the purchaser.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
• Access your data — all your data is visible within the app
• Edit your data — update your profile, measurements, and workout logs at any time
• Delete your account — use the "Delete Account" option in Profile to permanently delete all your data from our servers
• Opt out of notifications — disable any or all reminders in the Notifications settings
GDPR Rights (European Users)
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), you have additional rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):
Legal Basis for Processing: We process your personal data based on (a) your consent when you create an account and agree to this policy, (b) contract performance to provide the app's services, and (c) our legitimate interest in improving the app.
Additional Rights:
• Right to data portability — request a copy of your data in a portable format
• Right to restrict processing — request that we limit how we use your data
• Right to object — object to processing based on legitimate interest
• Right to erasure — request deletion of your personal data (also available via in-app account deletion)
• Right to lodge a complaint — you may file a complaint with your local data protection authority

POPIA Compliance (South African Users)
If you are located in South Africa, you have rights under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA):

Lawful Basis for Processing: We process your personal information based on (a) your consent when creating an account, (b) the necessity to perform the service you requested, and (c) our legitimate interest in improving the app.

• Right to request deletion of your personal information
• Right to object to processing of your personal information

Data Retention
Active Accounts: Your personal data is retained for as long as your account is active and you continue to use the app.
Account Deletion: When you delete your account via Profile → Delete Account, all your personal data is permanently deleted from our servers immediately. This includes your profile information, workout logs, workout plans, body measurements, and fitness goals.
Orphaned Data: If data becomes orphaned due to a technical issue (e.g. partial deletion), it will be cleaned up during routine maintenance.
Backups: Firebase may retain encrypted backups for a short period as part of its infrastructure. These are not accessible and are automatically purged.
Community Plans: Workout plans you published to the community remain available after account deletion unless you delete them first. Published plans only contain the plan structure and your display name — no personal data.
Governing Law
This Privacy Policy and your use of Progression are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa. Any disputes arising from or relating to this policy shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of South Africa.
Children's Privacy
Progression is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us so we can delete it.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected in the app with an updated effective date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
Acceptance of Terms
By downloading, installing, or using Progression, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use the app.
Use of the App
Progression is a fitness tracking tool provided for personal, non-commercial use. You agree to:
• Provide accurate information when creating your account
• Keep your login credentials secure and confidential
• Use the app in compliance with all applicable laws
• Not attempt to access other users' data or disrupt the service
User Content
You retain ownership of all content you create (workout plans, logs, measurements). By publishing a workout plan to the community, you grant other users permission to view and use that plan for their own training. You can delete your community plans at any time.
Health Disclaimer
Progression is a tracking and planning tool only. It does NOT provide medical advice, diagnoses, or treatment. Always consult a qualified healthcare professional before starting any exercise programme. We are not responsible for any injuries or health issues that may arise from exercises logged or planned in the app. Use the app at your own risk.
Account Termination
You may delete your account at any time through the app (Profile → Delete Account). This permanently removes all your data from our servers. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms or are used for abuse.
Limitation of Liability
Progression is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We are not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app, including but not limited to data loss, service interruptions, or inaccuracies in tracking.
Intellectual Property
The Progression app, including its design, code, branding, and pre-built workout plans, is the intellectual property of Progression. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or reverse-engineer any part of the app without written permission.
Changes to Terms
We may update these Terms of Service from time to time. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
